This is from the intro:
The first short day hike of the season exists to shake off the rust of winter. Spring had not yet arrived in Ancient Lakes. There were small patches of snow in the places where the apricity of the low sun never touches. There were no green buds on the tree, no wild flowers sprouting, and few animals.
Throughout, I was weighed down by elderly cameras. For the eight miles I carried a Speed Graphic, a Graflex RB23 and a mercifully light Kodak Brownie box camera. Photographically speaking, my main intent was to see what a new-to-me Steinheil Rapid Antiplanet 270mm lens could do. Or rather, to see what I could do with such a lens. Much of this (and nearly everything within labeled "Speed") is that.
I also carried 26 sheets of film, 2 glass plates, and a half-dozen rolls of 120 film - most of which I shot. The sheets, as you might be able to tell, were often in Grafmatic holders.
This time, it's b&w and color and 44 pages.
